From the Tyrrhenian side: take the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway take junction Sicignano raccordo autostradale “Basentana”(SS-407), after about 48 kilometers you will reach Potenza; continuing on the same way for another 74 miles you will meet the junction to Matera, (SS 7) after about 30 kilometers. The Basentana continues until Metaponto, ends on the SS 106 Jonica Taranto-Sibari.
From the Adriatic coast: take the A14 Bologna-Taranto “Autostrada adriatica” to Foggia, you will have to divert towards Candela (where it crosses the A16Napoli-Bari) and proceed to Melfi and Potenza. From the same motorway you can reach Matera exit at Bari nord, follow the SS 96 towards Altamura (about 60 Km).
From the Tyrrhenian side: from Salerno railway station, on the Naples-Reggio Calabria line, there is a railway line that crosses the Basilicata linking Potenza with Taranto.
From the Adriatic coast: you can reach the capital with line Foggia-Potenza; Matera is reachable from Bari with Appulo Lucane railway (FAL). The Ionian coast is crossed by the Taranto-Sibari railway line.
